Many of here have been reminiscing about great SF shows. With the luxury of of this era, we can now revisit those that have been released on DVD. Space Above & Beyond is one of those that we either discovered or rediscovered much to our delight.
Those new to the show wanted to know why was this show canceled. Its far more interesting and compelling than most of what’s on television these days. Of course it was on Fox and even back then they didn’t give shows a chance to gain its legs and find an audience.
The ships are cool and they tried to use real physics in their motion and propulsion. One member said it was the closest to Starship Troopers on TV… in that they captured the feel of what being a Marine is about, they just didn’t have mobile suits. Also Rodney Rowlands’ character Cooper Hawkes was very interesting and well played… considering also that it was Rowlands first major tv series work and maybe his 3rd acting job.
The show had great characters, and still wears well today. I recommend Space: Above & Beyond
