Thanks to our Web Guru, Kris, I’m reading a great book right now called Tinker. It’s by Wen Spencer, a former Campbell Award winner, who wrote the Ukiah Oregon series (another great read!). This is a great, quirky read full of wit and action.
Tinker is set in near-future Pittsburgh, or what would be Pittsburgh if it hadn’t been transported to the Faerie world of Elfhome by a faulty hyperphase gate created by the Chinese. Once a month Pittsburgh rejoins the USA on Shutdown Day. The transition is a little unsettling and loss of power occurs for about an hour. Stinky enough to lose electricity in the midst of a job but when an elf comes running through Tinker’s junkyard followed by a pack of vicious Wargs (you don’t want to know!) hot on his heels her day gets even better. Tinker tries to save the elf who turns out to be an Elven viceroy and gets swept up into court drama and assassination attempts.
This book has got great characters, a fast and unpredictable plot and tons of sass. I can’t wait to start on the next book in the series Wolf Who Rules. Be sure to add Tinker to your pile of books and you might want to check out her other series too. Good books are hard to find somedays.
