Members of the Rhode Island Science Fiction Club got treated tonight to a sneak preview of I Am Legend starring Will Smith.
If you are unfamiliar with the premise, the story is about a man who is immune to a virus that killed millions. He’s now living alone in New York City. Well, alone during the day — with the sun shining brightly. At night the infected come out to feed. This is based on Richard Matheson’s novel.
no spoilers….
The suspense was high, the acting was awesome and everyone loved it! A few effects on the infected people reminded be of The Mummy and could have been better (or maybe that was the effect they were going for and I’m nitpicking) but other than that I thought it was one of the best suspense/horror movies I’ve seen in ages.
This should be a yet another great hit for Will Smith. Dude can act! He’d get my vote for the Academy (if they’d let me).
I definitely recommend this — unless you can’t handle suspense! I’m no wuss, but man, this had me squirming!
This novel has been put to screen before. In 1971, The Omega Man starring Charlton Heston. And in the past, on multiple occasions, I’ve complained about remaking movies that are great to begin with. Well…. This is an exception. Will Smith is a much better actor. Soooo much better! This is one adaptation I stand behind one hundred percent.
