Artist Michael Turner has passed away at age 37 after a prolonged series of bouts with cancer. ComicBookResources.com reported that Turner passed away Friday night at 10:42 PM PDT at Santa Monica Hospital in California.
Turner, who rose to fame illustrating Witchblade for Top Cow Productions, went on to found his own company, Aspen MLT, and to become one of the industry’s most popular cover artists.
Marvel’s Civil War and DC’s Identity Crisis were just two of the numerous high profile projects to feature his covers, and a Michael Turner cover in many ways was practically guaranteed to generate sales. Aspen, Fathom, Witchblade, and Superman/Batman all bore his interior art as well. He was selected for The Overstreet Hall of Fame in The Overstreet Comic Book Price Guide in 2007 and consistently picked by Wizard magazine as a top artist.
